Terrance
At just 17, Terrance carries the weight of more loss and trauma than many experience in a lifetime. After losing multiple caretakers and battling depression and PTSD, he’s struggled to navigate a world that often doesn’t see or understand invisible wounds. Quiet but reflective, Terrance hesitates to share his story, fearing judgment from peers who don’t comprehend the nature of his struggles. Yet through individual and group therapy offered by his school, he’s begun to rebuild his confidence, finding solace in the knowledge that he’s not alone.
With support from the Los Angeles Unified School District’s mental health programs, Terrance has seen remarkable progress: his attendance and grades have improved, and his outlook on life has brightened. For the first time, he feels hopeful about his future. His story underscores the importance of early intervention for young people facing mental health challenges. Programs like this not only transform individual lives but also strengthen communities, providing a pathway for kids like Terrance to rise above their circumstances and dream beyond survival.
