No Faking the Funk

Josh, a native Texan who moved to Venice Beach in the mid-80s, has always embraced challenges with a fearless spirit. Back then, Venice was ruled by gangs, surfers, and skaters, and Josh quickly earned the nickname "Texas" for his toughness in both surfing and skating. Despite the occasional economic downturn, Josh, now a wood floor maker, finds balance in his lifelong passion for music, which has been a constant presence in his life.Raised in a musical family, Josh picked up the trumpet as a kid and has been jamming ever since. His introduction to jazz in Los Angeles led him to spots like the World Stage in Leimert Park, where he was welcomed by the legendary Billy Higgins. Despite the intimidation of playing alongside seasoned jazz musicians, Josh confidently took the stage, letting the music flow through him. When he begins to jam, everything else fades away.
