On His Way Back
Paul Mitchel grew up in a storybook neighborhood in Seattle, where kids played freely in the streets and a strong sense of community thrived. As an adult, he built a steady life working in construction, but an unforeseen dark chapter derailed his stability. Struggling with the challenges of daily life, Paul lost his footing, eventually finding himself unable to maintain work and ultimately living on the streets. Seeking a fresh start, he journeyed to Los Angeles, hoping for a second chance in a city with a milder climate and the promise of renewal.
That hope began to take shape when Paul found refuge and support with the Skid Row Housing Trust. Through the federal Shelter Plus Care program, which provides safe housing and services to homeless individuals with disabilities, Paul began to rebuild his life. With renewed confidence and stability, he’s regained his driver’s license and is optimistic about the future. His story, a testament to resilience and the power of community, serves as an inspiration for anyone seeking to turn the page toward brighter days.
